About the Author

Family Alex Cook and Leslie Surfing

From a modest background of public schools and a broken home, to senior roles in the rough and tumble world of huge Wall Street Investment Banks, Alex Cook has experienced more than enough for one lifetime. He has lived and worked around the globe, from Bali to Central Park South, and held roles ranging from dishwasher to CEO. Despite his financial success, the path has been far from easy. Along the way, he has overcome various corporate trials and tribulations, and seen the challenges of addiction, adultery, and poverty in an up close and personal way.

After making (and keeping) a small fortune, Alex left Wall Street at the peak of his earnings prowess. Unlike most, he was able to unshackle the golden handcuffs and focus on the things that were most important to him: Health, his family, and those less fortunate. Cook began a spiritual journey that included meditation and surfing. This early curiosity led to a commitment to what he calls “Movement in Nature with Friends.”

The author leans on this rich and broad collection of experiences and perceptions to create books that draw the reader into an imaginative world…a world that often rhymes with his own journey, but not so much as to be considered autobiographical. There is also a liberal sprinkling of pop culture, especially music, into the literary tapestry, which when coupled with a wry sense of humor, allows Cook to weave zeitgeist gems (some would say absurdities) throughout his novels.

Cook and his (trophy!) wife of forty years split their time between the Columbia River Gorge, Baja, and Indonesia. You can usually find them on the beach or in the mountains - with their dogs, family, and friends - sharing waves, wind, and smiles. Alex measures his greatest success not by deals closed or titles earned, but by the life he has built with his wife, their three children, and a steadily growing brood of grandchildren.
